Put together a small but powerful professional British TV and video production company with the country’s leading online video delivery experts and you have a match made in heaven.

That’s the experience of Robbie Hill, Managing Director of Hill Tribe Productions, who is rushed off his feet catering to the ever-growing demand for online video. His company has been hired by organisations like Baco, Plymouth University and Business Link South West to develop a video strategy for marketing and communications.

“They are all using video to communicate with their clients and customers, and showcase their product and services in an engaging way,” says Mr Hill.

He said Hill Tribe are experts at producing top quality video, but the company are not online content delivery experts, so they had to look elsewhere to find a professional video hosting service to showcase the results of their labours.

“I believe that the world of online video and the most efficient ways to deliver that video is fast-changing and ever-evolving – something I just don’t have the time or manpower to keep up to date with,”he says.

This video virtuoso needed help in putting his product “out there”, so he began to investigate the video hosting options available.

The main criteria required by Hill Tribe for the ideal video platform was firstly efficiency – a delivery network that would enable fast download of the films the company produced to the end user.

“We also wanted a platform that allowed us to make the most of our portfolio, through player branding and customisation, to SEO optimisation. We need our portfolio to work online for us, and to sell our services as professional video producers,” said Mr Hill.

It was time to go shopping (online shopping of course!) and Mr Hill compared what the main video platforms were offering in the realms of price, range of features, scalability and reputation.

“Ooyala offered a great range of features and options, but their price point was unrealistic for us. Kaltura offered a good range, but their previous customer service had been poor and we wanted a company that would be there for us. Brightcove have a good reputation and good price point, but when we tested their content delivery network it under-performed.”

Then, along came vzaar with its free 30-day trial, which proved to “offer everything we wanted and at a realistic price.”

Mr Hill said the vzaar customer service during the trial period gave him huge confidence in the company, and he was particularly impressed that vzaar was constantly upgrading and innovating features and options.

This is valuable for us as we need to know we are relying on a video platform that will keep us informed about the latest developments and features for online video, so we can, in turn, be up to date and offer our clients the best service possible.

Mr Hill believes vzaar to be the perfect partner for video production companies who want to focus on their craft – making the content – and not having to worry about delivering it.

“By working with vzaar we know that the films we produce will be shown to the end user online in the highest quality available – the culmination of all our hard work and effort.”

With vzaar handling delivery, Mr Hill is now set to take his relatively small company, based in south-west England, to new heights, with an office already opened in Thailand to handle productions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Christmas in January

Aaron
article by:

January – The new month for Christmas parties. You heard it here first! Here at vzaar we have only just found time to let our manly hair down and enjoy a festive night out, albeit not one Christmas tree in sight. Shame.

The good thing about Christmas parties is the next morning. Waking up, checking your facebook account to find that you’ve been tagged in 48 pictures, all of which involve a traffic cone that you and the Finance Manager have decided to befriend all evening, taking it to every bar before leaving it in the kebab shop on the way home only to be chased out before you had a chance to put some burger sauce on your chips. Someone reach for the aspirin, I think I’m gonna need some. [Note: None of the above actually happened]

Now you would have thought that being a team of tech geeks, someone would have brought their expensive SLR along. This was not the case. Our evening was more civilised, a few 2-4-1 cocktails @Concrete, then off for some rather delicious Dim Sum @Ping Pong.

Happy New Year to you all! (by the way, when’s the cut-off point for wishing people this?)

Team Outing

Aaron
article by:

Last Friday saw all of us here at vzaar take the foot off the gas a little (quite literally) as we attended an off site team building day.

This gave us a chance to asses future developments, have a look at what else is out there – and more importantly – what isn’t!

But before all of this took place, Adrian had a challenge up his sleeve in order to help us get into the creative state of mind… The Marshmallow Challenge to be precise! (You can read more here: http://www.marshmallowchallenge.com/Instructions.html

In a nutshell, we divided into teams and had 18 minutes to build a freestanding Spaghetti tower which could hold a marshmallow. Using only 20 spaghetti sticks, a yard of tape and a yard of string, Stephen and myself knew exactly what we were doing, so much so, we spent the first 10 minutes talking and snapping the spaghetti sticks in half for a reason neither of us could justify. Ian and Mauricio were busy crafting elegant looking triangles and all we could do was wonder why we now had even more spaghetti sticks that we started with.

As the 18 minutes came to an end, Ian and Mauricio, who got off to a flyer, were left stunned as Stephen and myself had somehow crafted a free standing tower reaching a staggering 18″ WITH the marshmallow sitting pretty at the top. Good job!

Behold...! The Rising Tower of Mallow!

Here’s some Highlights…

After lunch we descended on Surbiton Raceway for an afternoon of go-karting! Now for me, this WAS a challenge seeing as I’m the only one at vzaar not to of driven a car before – and it had just been raining. Great.

The session was split into two 22 minute chunks with the overall winner being crowned for the highest number of laps completed. So, all I had to do was just go round and round without spinning off, right? Easy.

A few laps into the first session, who’s first to go… Yep – it’s me. 3/4 laps later… and I’m off again. I could hear Murray Walker giving me a right earful. As I was going round I began to improve, not knowing who I was overtaking as I could only identify the others by looking at their shoes. Something I will take on board next time.

The first session is over… this gives me chance to stretch my fingers as I could feel the cramp settling in. Does this happen to normal drivers?
Whilst the rest of team vzaar take a brief peak at their laps times I was trying to work out how to keep hold of a lead – I was first into the pits, which means first out. Woo-hoo.

Twenty-two minutes later I’d been overtaken just the once – only for that mystery driver to spin out half a lap later – as did all my fellow drivers throughout the second session. Surely this advantage had me on the podium?

I came Third! Pretty chuffed with myself to be honest. Felt like a victory!

We decided to keep the champagne. honest.

There we have it… a great team building day had by all!

Ian
article by:

Hi, I’m Stephen McCluskey, new CEO at vzaar. I’m really pleased to be helping this dynamic company to grow and drive the takeup of online video to our business customers.

My background is in growing tech businesses. I’ve grown, acquired and sold online software businesses but my real interest is in matching market need to fast-track development…and nowhere is market need growing faster than companies worldwide using video online to promote their products and services. This market is growing at an exponential rate today.

So, what is happening in our online video world: everything is accelerating …

We are growing faster than ever before as customers recognise the great value online video brings to their website propositions. This is reflected in vzaar’s sales, recruitment and increased funding.

Our growth is phenomenal: 3X what it was 6 months ago: online video truly has arrived and we’re proving it! As a result we have recruited across the company’s operations, sales, development, customer service and design…and we continue to recruit.

vzaar is innovating and launching new developments faster than any other video platform provider today: 3 months and 3 brilliant new service enhancements for our professional customers:

Firstly, the bulk uploader allows customers with many videos to manage the encoding and uploading service of multiple video files in parallel, cutting down on time and improving their effectiveness.

Likewise, the new video labels & playlist function will help vzaar customers review and organise their list of videos very easily.

And the latest development: vzaar’s brilliant new iPhone and iPad application is hot off the press: signed off by Apple on 10 June. It’s really intuitive way to manage your online videos on the move. Download it FREE today from iTunes!

There’s a lot more coming up very soon in the vzaar pipeline … so watch this space. Also, if you have ideas you would like to see the team at vzaar implement, drop us an email.

I delighted to join the vzaar team with so much excitement in the rapidly growing market of online video. I’ll be doing all I can to underline vzaar’s position as the prime professional online video provider.

vzaar welcomes Aaron…

Aaron
article by:

Hello, my name is Aaron and I’m the latest member of the vzaar team.

I joined on the 1st of April – no joke – as a web designer/developer as well to help maintain the social aspects of the company [vzaar blog, twitter etc... you know what I mean].

I am very excited to be joining as I got a very good impression as to what the company are trying to achieve when coming here a few weeks ago. Being passionate about all things web based, especially video, I hope my time at vzaar will help me develop my current skill set in order to help the company grow.

Here’s a few little ‘ice breaking’ facts about me, just so when you say hello, you don’t get that sense of awkwardness :

- I come from the same town as The Darkness and Little Chris
- I started making websites when I was 15
- I’m left-handed
- The first CD I bought was ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis
- I support Norwich City F.C (and yes, I have met Delia Smith)

During the next few weeks, exciting ones at that, I’ll be posting interesting stuff that’s been going on here at vzaar towers.

Until next time,

Aaron J Rodgers
