Can I encode my videos before I upload?

You can encode your videos before you upload them, and if your files sizes are larger than 1GB we suggest that you do just that. There are a number of free services out there that will aid you in doing this. We’d certainly recommend you try any of the following: Handbrake, Zamzar and Media-Convert. Lastly, be sure to select an output format that we currently accept.

Once encoded, be sure to turn the 'Encode All Videos' setting to 'OFF' in your settings page, so that we don't re-encode it again.

The Do Not Encode option means we avoid encoding the video again and preserve the original source. Selecting the Do Not Encode option means we bypass the encoding step which means a quicker upload time for you too.

Please note however that the source must be either a MP4 (H.264 encoded) or an FLV file. Enabling the 'Do Not Encode' feature means that the source video file will then be played in your video player, and this will be the default setting for all your future video uploads.
